Polkadot Updates
🔴 ⭕️ Relay Chain

Polkadot v0.9.50-1 has been released with LOW upgrade priority.
An interesting vulnerability related to the zero-address on Polkadot was fixed in a recent runtime upgrade. It is covered in-depth by Wei Tang here.
🔴 🏛 Governance
Referendum 50, proposing to upgrade the Polkadot runtime to v9151, was passed and executed. Note that this referendum was fast-tracked by the Technical Committee, thus the shortened voting period.
Motion 144 to fund a virtual event to raise the profile of privacy and the use of zero knowledge proofs in the Polkadot ecosystem has passed Council vote.
Motion 145, proposing to fund a Treasury Proposal for DatDot, a p2p file hosting network built on Substrate, has passed.
Motion 146, a bounty proposal to fund an incentive prize program called The Polkadot Pioneers Prize and structure a series of challenges with the goal of propelling technical innovation on the Polkadot network, passed Council vote.
As mentioned, the first two of those challenges should be announced later this year and will cover categories including zero-knowledge research and Polkadot infrastructure improvements (the curator will be in charge of the structure for these).

Daniel from Virto published a new proposal to cover the development of Libwallet: a lightweight and very portable library with simple to understand and use abstractions, that allow creating chain-agnostic crypto wallets able to run in all kinds of environments like native applications, hosted wallets, the browser or even embedded hardware. Darwinia Crab has won the most recent parachain auction.

Referendum 168, proposing to unbrick the Subsocial parachain, has been passed and executed.
Motion 421, clearing out some Bounty proposals that included no contextual information, was passed and executed.
Motion 426, to fund continued work on SubVT (the Substrate Validator Toolkit), was passed.
Motion 427, proposing to un-brick the Picasso parachain, was passed and executed. It is now up for a community vote as Referendum 170.
Motion 428, proposing to fund a Treasury Proposal for production of the SER, Have ya’ Heard? Community News Digest is under consideration by the Kusama Council.
Polkachu has issued a proposal to cover maintenance costs of their dashboard and other validator/nominator services.
Helikon has published a proposal for continuing work on SubVT (the Substrate Validator Toolkit).
Feedback from the community is requested for a potential minimum commission level for validators.

Bifrost announced a RMRK/KSM bootstrap and liquidity incentive program to be launched on Zenlink DEX.
Polakdot released an article to introduce Encointer, Kusama’s second common-good parachain.
Octopus Network has delivered the first milestone of a bridge implementation between Cosmos and Astar Network.
Composable posted an article describing Centauri, its bridge to the Cosmos ecosystem.
Composable also announced that it would continue the development of Angular Finance as the joint venture partnership with HydraDX has come to a mutual end.
Acala hosted a launch update live stream with its community.
SubDAO announced that it will be bringing its DAO infrastructure tools to Moonriver/Moonbeam.
Celer cBridge partners with Astar Network to enable asset bridging and inter-chain messaging.
Robonomics released a report on its first week as a parachain.
Kilt announced the launch of SocialKYC, “a building block for making online services in Web3 better and safer.”
Genshiro posted an article on how to get the most out of its GENS tokens.

Phala released a recap of 2021 and a report for 2022.
Phala also announced that it has joined the Blender Developer Fund as a Cooperate Gold Member.
SubQuery partners with Darwinia Network to build SubQuery’s CLI tool.
SORA announced a partnership with RMRK to implement RMRK pallets on the SORA network. The scope of the partnership includes a reward from RMRK in the form of a special Kanaria NFT item for the top 100 SORA crowdloan contributors.
Litentry released an update that documents progress for the past week.
Darwinia announced a developer airdrop program totaling 200,000 CRAB. Any Github account registered before December 30, 2021 will be qualified to claim the airdrop!
Subspace launched its Kusama Relayer to back up every new blockchain across the Kusama Network as a public service.
InvArch is a relatively new protocol that aims to utilize blockchain technology to allow individuals to tokenize and store their intellectual property (IP) as intellectual property files (IPFs), combine IPFs into collections called IP Sets, and utilize programmable IP Tokens pegged to an IP Set. Imbue is a new protocol that aims to provide a decentralized crowdfunding infrastructure to the entire world that allows anyone, from any walk of life and for any kind of endeavor, to submit and vote on Ideas worth funding from the communities that believe in them the most.

Wei Tang has produced a page with up-to-date information about validators in the active set that nominators may find useful.
Polkadot co-founder Rob Habermeier posted a detailed article about the technology powering Polkadot.
Logan Saether, CEO of Zeitgeist was interviewed by RiRi Gone Wild where he discussed the inspiration and vision for Zeitgeist.
🛠 Tools
Polkadot-JS Apps v0.103.1 has been released with multiple changes introduced: adjustments to endpoint sorting, parachain display, storage app, and more.
Polkadot-JS Extension v0.42.7 has been released.
Polkadot-JS API v7.5.1 has been released with LOW upgrade priority. It is recommended for users of the latest contract pallet and ink! versions.
v1.6.0 of the Staking Rewards Collector has been released.
Substrate developers should be aware of this change, making bounded storage the default for pallets. There is more discussion of this change in the #devhub:matrix.parity.io channel on Matrix.
